EZProGear TCM148-35 Review by Hilldo
This mic pics up way too much low frequency noise from testimonial persons moving or simply from people exhaling when speaking. Mole skin trick doesn't help much either. Save yourself time in post if you plan on using this mic in anything less than still seated testimonial speaker interview settings. Even then you'll have to deal with too much noise on the low end. It is a decent rig for the price but isn't really worth the savings considering the fixes in post or having to have speaker repeat lines due to hits.
EZProGear TCM148-35 Review by Dagoberto P. Patlan "DJ Dogbone" (San Antonio, Texas United States)
I ordered this microphone because my Sennheiser wireless system has been damaged on a feature film. I was not about to drop $140 on a new mic only to discover the system (transmitter or receiver) was damaged.
This EZPRO mic does indeed plug into the G2/G3 Sennheiser 300 series wireless transmitter. It it much larger than the original ME2 by 3-4 times. It does indeed pick up sound...the problem is, as others have reported, the audio has extreme low-end base & this mic also picks up every little movement.
Upon further examination, I discovered that this microphone has an "unbalanced" 1/8 connector and not a balanced connector. This means that there is a Tip & Sleeve only and not TIP/Ring/Sleeve connector like the original Sennheiser.
By definition, a condenser mic must have power to work and that is why real condenser mics have mini XLR or Tip/Ring/Sleeve connections (either 1/8" or 1/4"). A dynamic microphone does NOT need power and there for only needs 2 wires or connections to work (tip & sleeve only.)
This may seem like a small detail but it does beg the question...if this is a condenser microphone as described, where does the power come from? The Tip is the (+) side of the Audio, the Sleeve is the (-) or common ground. The Ring is where the microphone is supposed to get its power from.
Based on the audio quality and the behavior of the microphone, it is the opinion of this reviewer that the microphone is NOT a condenser but a dynamic microphone. That is why it picks up all the sounds close to it and why the audio is so heavy on the base end. This is the exact behavior of a dynamic microphone...much like a mini handheld microphone like a Shure SM58 or SM63.
One good side note about dynamic mics, they can take a beating and are cheap to replace. I can use this mic to record non-vocal sounds that are very loud without too much worry I'll destroy a $140 mic!
DO NOT BUY THIS MIC if you are looking for a replacement for you ME2 Sennheiser....bite the bullet and get the real replacement. However, if you would like to have a test mic, a cheap emergency back up mic, or have to record foley that is extremely loud, go for the EZPRO.
I'm planning to keep this one for extreme situation such as mentioned about....but it would never be my first choice for capturing voices.

We use this mic for our childrens church. We decided to give it a try since reccommended mics were $$$. So glad we decided to use this one. It works great in our environment. Our church seats 400 people.
